Peace Deal is massive step forward for all Nepal.

The news from Nepal during the past several months has been encouraging and all of us who share a love of Nepal, it's people and it's majestic scenery were all hoping that at last events were about to produce the result we all knew had to come.
Although we are all overjoyed at the prospect of a new dawn, we must also recognise that the events of two weeks ago when the "Peace Deal" was signed are only the very beginnings of a long road towards the lasting peace and prosperity that Nepal so richly deserves. One foot has been firmly placed on that road and although there is a long way to travel, with maybe a stumble or two along the way, my belief is that the goal will be reached.
For many years visitors to Nepal and it's rich culture and scenery have been one it's few sources of income. Visitors to Nepal did not only bring their money however. They also brought to the Nepalese a glimpse of the trappings of more wealthy countries. Things that we all take for granted were not available to the average Nepali and I am not just refering to personal possessions. A decent education, good healthcare and adequate housing were denied to the majority. Many young Nepali men opted to work in the Middle East in an attempt to provide a better standard of living for themselves and their families - they also saw a better standard of life was available.
With an average age of around 25 Nepal has a comparitively young population and it was perhaps inevitable that, having glimpsed other nations comparative prosperity, they would become disenchanted with their lot. Change, on a scale that was needed in Nepal to satisfy the majority, is rarely achieved without a heavy price in human life and suffering. The past ten years or more have seen Nepal pay that price and all of us, especially Nepali's looking towards a brighter horizon must never forget those who paid that price. It is for their sake that transition to a peaceful and prosperous future must not be allowed to fail.
All of us that hold Nepal dear to our hearts wish the people of that majical Himalayan kingdom every good wish for the future. Now is the time to support them in whatever way we can. Visit Nepal, encourage friends to do the same and help keep the momentum of this journey moving towards a secure and bright tomorrow.
As the year draws to a close we would like to wish you all a peaceful 2007 and whatever religion you follow, may your God/Gods go with you.

Best Wishes from all at trekhimalayas.com
