America suggests ceremonial role for monarch.

Responding to the King’s speech on parliament revival, United States has advised King Gyanendra to hand over power to the parties and assume a ceremonial role in country’s governance.
Releasing a press statement, Adam Ereli, deputy spokesman at US Department of State, said Nepal’s political parties must own their responsibilities and cooperate to turn the people’s demands for democracy and good governance into reality. He also said the Maoists must end their violent attacks and join a peaceful political process.
“Through these steps stability, peace and democracy can be restored in Nepal. The United States and the international community stand ready to help,” reads Ereli’s statement, adding, “The US salutes Nepalis’ courage and resilience in their struggle for democracy.”
The statement also regrets the loss of lives and injuries that occurred in the recent demonstrations and calls upon Nepal’s security forces to show utmost restraint in responding, should any further demonstrations occur.
The European Union has also expressed its pleasure at the King’s message. “We are happy with the development as it seems there is a possibility of beginning the process of peace and democracy,” Pauli Mustonen, the acting ambassador at the embassy of Finland told THT.
China to has welcomed King Gyanendra’s decision to re-convene Parliament and said the move would restore social stability and achieve political reconciliation in Nepal.
“We welcome the positive efforts made by the King and hope that Nepali people will achieve political reconciliation and social stability,” Foreign Ministry spokesman, Qin Gang, said. Maintaining that China is a friendly neighbour of Nepal, Qin declined Chinese intervention in Nepal.“We would like to see peace, harmony, stability and development in Nepal,” he added.
